About 2048
Slide numbered tiles, combine equal pairs, and work toward a 2048 tile.
2048 is a four-by-four number puzzle. Each move slides every tile as far as it can in one direction. Two matching tiles combine into one larger tile, and the value of that new tile is added to your score. A tile can merge only once during a move.
A new tile appears only after a move changes the board. Reach 2048 to complete the goal, then continue if you want to build larger numbers. The game ends when the board is full and no adjacent pair can merge.
How to play
Move the board up, down, left, or right. Combine equal numbers to make 4, 8, 16, and larger tiles. Keep at least one open area so you have room to rearrange tiles. Reach a 2048 tile to win, or keep playing afterward. Undo reverses the latest move. Restart starts over.
Controls
Focus the board and use the arrow keys. On a touchscreen, swipe across the board. Use Undo to reverse a move and Restart to reset the board.
Tips
Keep your largest tile near a corner and build a descending row beside it. Avoid splitting your largest matching tiles across opposite edges. An unchanged move does not spawn a tile, so look for a direction that actually moves or merges a tile.
Questions about 2048
Can one tile merge twice during the same move?
No. A tile created by a merge cannot merge again until your next move. A row of four 2 tiles becomes two 4 tiles, rather than one 8.
Does reaching 2048 end the game?
Reaching 2048 completes the main goal. You can choose to continue and try to make larger tiles.
